KPN is going to probably appeal against the decision to the licenses for gsm frequencies with a two year extension. The provider assumed that the licenses early next year, expired and wants its lte network soon roll out.

KPN would like fast 4g network roll-out on the 1800MHz band, but under the conditions of the current license is not allowed. KPN is considering so to raise objections against the decision of minister Verhagen to the license extension for two years, said KPN ceo Jos Huigen during a meeting in the European Parliament, which Tweakers.net was present.

The licence, which runs, dating back to the nineties and required providers to be on the 1800MHz band gsm to use. The renewal of the licence for the 1800MHz band is meaningless, because there is no political discussion about the interpretation of that band. Minister Verhagen made last week announced that the current licenses are still 21 months longer in use remain. Because there is so much pushed going to be frequencies, would providers that way the time for a smooth transition.

KPN sees 1800MHz an ideal band for 4g, because there are already a lot of peripherals exists on that frequency. In the Netherlands, also the 800MHz band available, but according to Huigen is less attractive, because there is less equipment available.

The provider has made no decision about a possible objection against the renewal of the licenses. The spokespersons of KPN were not immediately reachable for a comment on the possible objections. KPN also has objections to the frequentieveiling itself, because the fear is less frequencies to be able to buy by the space that is made for newcomers. Who the newcomers should be, is unclear. Ziggo hooked earlier. Tele2 seems to have plans to set up a private network to roll out.
