Microsoft wants to response time touch screens improve to 1ms

Microsoft wants to have the input-lag of a touch screen to reduce to 1ms. According to the company is the current response time to 100ms. Microsoft Research demonstrates the differences in a video and claims that interaction in 1ms only really ‘realistic’ feel.

According to Microsoft, the average input lag, the time between the touch and the response of the screen, the screens currently 100 milliseconds, while faster touch response time of 50 milliseconds. Both values are according to the company is too high to the user a realistic feeling of interaction with objects.

Especially on large touch-sensitive screens, would the reaction rate is noticeably too low, according to Paul Dietz of Microsoft’s Applied Sciences Group: “As users the touch of a finger with 1 meter per second on a current touch system with 100ms lag, the moving image 10 cm behind.”

At the video demonstration to see the effect of the 1ms-response time, use the Microsoft, moreover, no real touch screen, but projectors. The purpose of the research of the group is, however, to touch screens with the appropriate responsiveness.
