The GSM Association is working with the Wireless Broadband Alliance to allow mobile users easier access to wi-fi hotspots. The use of hotspots must be comparable with roaming on telecom networks.

Wi-fi roaming should connect to wi-fi networks simplify by login via access codes or passwords redundant. In addition, a user would no longer own the settings of the phone or tablet need to adjust to connect to a wi-fi network. The roamingtechniek for wi-fi must be seamless connections to allow through the authentication of the user through the sim card smoothly. The technique is currently still in development. So there are still ways to be found to keep the payment, the authentication is secure and wi-fi roaming automatically correct hotspots to choose from.

It uses existing roamingtechnieken by both organisations are developed. Thus, the GSM Association developed a protocol that by pie is used to roaming on 2g networks to make it possible. The Wireless Broadband Alliance has a similar technique has been developed for roaming via wi-fi. By combining this and to further build on this creates a technique that is universal wi-fi roaming, says the two organizations. It was not published when the protocol is ready.

The GSM Association is an umbrella organisation for providers, with most of the major companies on the telecoms market, are connected. The Wireless Broadband Alliance has been established to access the internet using mobile networks to promote, and has several telecom providers and content companies as a member. The development of a technique for wi-fi roaming easier to make is probably motivated by the strong increase in wi-fi hotspots; many providers in the past few years have been busy for networks of such hotspots.
