Zynga later this month will start with an own game portal at zynga.com. There want Zynga, the number of active players to grow from 240 million to 1 billion. Players remain on zynga.com still pay with Facebook Credits.
Zynga start the Zynga Platform, a game-portal that is accessible via zynga.com. This means the game designer is independent of Facebook, the platform on which the games of Zynga now to play. The portal will be available later this month, is for now a beta test. Zynga hopes on the Zynga Platform is not only its own games, such as FarmVille and Mafia Wars, to to host, but also games from other developers.
Zynga wants games together on a private platform, because in research of the company, it would appear that players stay longer, hang out on the platform if there are more people who want to play. That is, according to Zynga’s easier on a special platform than on a social networking site like Facebook.
However, there are also business motives. Facebook roomt 30 percent of all revenue that Zynga via the networking site generates. Zynga is good for 12 per cent of its revenue from Facebook. However, it is mainly Zynga that will benefit as it will no longer commission need to pay to Facebook. Zynga gets 90 percent of its revenue through Facebook.
Zynga is careful, however, with the severing of the ties with the social network. So going to the portal to make use of Facebook Connect, so it’s easy to use the Zynga Portal to stay in contact with friends on Facebook. Zynga also continues to make use of Facebook Credits, the currency that trades in games to be paid. Zynga can’t just let them fall. After a dispute over the introduction of Facebook Credits, the two companies an agreement in which Zynga is required to continue until 2015, to continue using the payment system.
The idea behind the Zynga Portal is not new. Through director Mark Pincus announced the company’s plans in 2011, though was the name of the portal then Zynga Directly.
