Students work on supersonic drone

Students of the University of Colorado are partnering with a startup started to build a drone that will have a turbo-jet engine. The unmanned plane would be faster than the geluiddsnelheid can fly.

The supersonic drone, which is codenamed Gojett bears, would be only 50kg roads. The wingspan of the prototype, where the University of Colorado along with the startup Starkey Aerospace Corporation working on is 1.5 meters, while the unmanned aircraft about 1.8 meters long.

Main innovation in the Gojett is the design of the compact L-FX00-jet engine. The L-FX00 would be more fuel-efficient than the existing jet engines and, moreover, no lubricants are needed. The supersonic turbojet-engine would be the drone a speed of Mach 1,4. That would be the unmanned aircraft not only the speed of sound able to break through, but also set a world record to draw in his weight class.

The first test flight of the superonische drone state for 2013 on the program; first the construction of the device are rounded, and the American aviation authority FAA must also give permission for the test, so reports TimesCall.

The builders say that the project is on a lot of interest, especially from the defence industry. The unit is with an estimated price of $ 100,000, is relatively cheap. In addition, the domestic market for unmanned aircraft in the US, strong growing, after president Obama legislation has been signed that, among other things, the police makes it possible to, within a few years drones.
