Release 3DS game blocked due to ‘questionable religious content’

Nintendo has the release of a Nintendo 3DS game halted due to “questionable religious content” in that game. It comes to the game The Binding of Isaac. It is for the first time since the 90’s that Nintendo has a gamerelease blocks.

The Binding of Isaac is inspired by the eponymous bible story in which Abraham, his son Isaac must sacrifice. The creator of the game, Edmund McMillen, made via Twitter announced that Nintendo and after a lengthy internal discussion, had decided the 3DS release of the game. More explanation than ‘questionable religious content’ gave the Japanese company.

In The Binding of Isaac, the player takes control of Isaac. Where Isaac in the biblical account, however, eventually was spared, it is in the game to the player himself to put the baby in to keep it alive. The player will be numerous dungeons filled with various enemies to survive. The game is already since last year to play on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. The Binding of Isaac would also be for the PlayStation 3, but that release is dismissed because of the deal with Microsoft was closed.

Kotaku points out that it is very uncommon for Nintendo the release of a game directly blocks. According to the website it came for the last time in the early nineties. In that time it was Nintendo and the developers do not allow blood or Nazi-related images in games to process.
