Nvidia has joined The Linux Foundation. Probably take Nvidia that decision now because of the important role that Linux, in conjunction with Googles Android operating system, is going to have to play on Nvidia’s mobile Tegra platform.
Together with Nvidia, are also Fluendo, known from the GStreamer-codecs, Mocana, and Lineo Solutions in the organization stepped up. The Linux Foundation says that the new members ‘are very important on their own domain within the Linux ecosystem’ and that ‘the contributions of the companies the alternative operating system will improve’.
The website Phoronix suspect that the move by Nvidia, especially related to the ever-growing mobile market, where it is on Linux running Android have a large market share. Nvidia is aiming for strong on that market with its Tegra platform.
In the last year joined more Yahoo, Toyota, Broadcom, and Qualcomm joined the Linux Foundation. The foundation offers members a say in the way the organisation is managed.
