Google: running Android apps is not illegal

Advertisers see no privacy-sensitive data of Android users and the apps on Android are, therefore, not illegal. That says a Android-maker Google against Tweakers.net in response to statements by european commissioner Viviane Reding.

According to Reding, vice-president of the European Commission and one of Europe’s most powerful politicians, operate a lot of Android apps illegally by information about users to share with advertisers. According to Google, the advertising networks, however, part of the app, and they may therefore use the data which Android apps are allowed to read. That says a spokeswoman of Google against Tweakers.net. “This ad network is part of the App and not something afzonderlijks. It is therefore not the case that an advertiser gets access to the user data.”

In addition, parts of the ad networks in apps are built in to the data for their turn with individual advertisers. “Most ad networks including our own network, AdMob, to share at all, no user data with advertisers. Where Viviane Reding is opinion is what Android always does: you have to ask permission for personal data to share.” Google has to show on the system, where the user for installation is always to see a screen with things for which the app permission want, such as the use of location data, accessing the address book or operation of hardware elements.

Google responds to statements of the european commissioner, Viviane Reding, on Monday, let us know that a lot of Android apps illegally to operate by data of users to upload and to share with advertisers. “That is against the law, because no one has the right to have your personal information, without your permission. They watching you, they follow you, they know where you’ve been, who your friends are and what preferences you have. That was not what you thought when you a free app downloaded.”

That apps on smartphones are relatively easy to privacy-sensitive information is known already for years. For Android users with root access, there are also already some time apps which permissions each app can be controlled. Users give when installing an app access to certain data. It is not possible to install the app without those permissions to grant.

Or Reding measures will take is unknown. The European Commission has the power to order Google to force the rules to strengthen the privacy of consumers is protected. In the United States, the press for privacy in smartphone apps more control after recent scandals about ‘providerspyware’ Carrier IQ and social-netwerkapp Path, that transparently address books of users uploaded.
