A Dutch company has a telecombeurs the service Datapolice presented. The company claims that the service is only able to smartphones anywhere in the world to detect, without an internet connection.
The service works through so-called ‘stealth sms’; the user can without the visible is send an sms to the phone. By that text message, the location determined via cell towers, gps and any nearby wi-fi networks. That data is then encrypted and sent back to the user, so the smartphone can detect. The service is automatically enabled if the sim card is changed.
Datapolice is according to the company is the only service that is working in this way. Other, similar services, such as HTC, Samsung and Apple, all mobile internet require. The app is supported by Android, BlackBerry and Symbian. The drawback is that it is a subscription service; for the full functionality of 1.50 euros per month to be deposited. Competitive services manufacturers themselves are free.
