Asus introduces Transformer-tablet with Snapdragon S4

Asus has a new addition to its Transformer range follows added. It is going to be a model with lte support on Qualcomms new S4 soc is based. There will also be a cheaper model with less storage memory.

Both tablets are similar to the previously released Transformer Prime in terms of specifications and appearance. The new Transformer Pad Infinity has, however, with 1920×1200 pixels, a higher resolution than the Transformer Prime with 1280×800 pixels. The Infinity version is also slightly thicker, perhaps because a larger battery is built in. This model was previously under the name of Transformer 700 presented at the CES. It was, however, only to a wi-fi version and no lte model.

Interestingly, Asus has chosen to set up the lte version with the Qualcomm MSM8960 S4 soc, which has two Krait cores, with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz. The same processor running in the newly announced Padfone. The Wi-fi version of the Infinity has the Tegra 3 soc on board. Why the lte version has a different soc will receive was not stated, but possibly it has to do with the integrated support for lte, which Qualcomm in the S4 soc has built in.

In addition, Asus has the advent of the cheaper model TF300T confirmed. This is under the name of Transformer Pad 300 on the market and with 16GB less storage. Nvidia’s Tegra 3 quadcore is reportedly equipped with a lower clock speed than the Transformer Prime. There will also be a lte version, which also has the Tegra 3 soc. For photos is an 8-megapixel camera is available, while a 1.2-megapixelfrontcamera is built.

Asus has opted for a rebranding of its tablets, but it is unclear why the S4 soc is used for the lte version of the new top model, but not for the cheaper Transformer Pad 300. It is also unlikely that the Asus tablets with lte released in Europe. Usually instead of a 3g model has been developed, but the manufacturer has already indicated it does not plan to be. Asus announced previously that the Transformer Pad Infinity in the second quarter in the United States to come out, but are still no details known.
