ARM version of Arch Linux for Raspberry Pi available

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has announced that the ARM version of Arch Linux for the Raspberry pi computer, after six months of development, available on her website. The following Raspberry Pi-batch at the end of april for sale.

The Linux distribution can be downloaded from the Raspberry Pi website. The image file to an sd card will be written with the Linux dd command or the alternative windd program on Windows. The distribution is, just as the platform on which it should run, aimed at experienced users. So is there no graphical shell included, but only a base installation, which further developed. Users who like a little more speed can start the Debian distribution to use, where a graphical shell built in.

A member of the Arch Linux ARM team worked in the last six months on porting the distribution to the ARM11 platform of the Raspberry Pi. The team has the Linux distribution to different ARM versions ported, such as version 5, 6 and 7 for the similar developing platforms BeagleBoard and PandaBoard.

The sale of the duurderde model B started last week, but 10,000 copies were almost immediately sold out. The organization has promised by the end of april again, 10,000 pieces to be able to deliver, reports the Inquirer.

The British Raspberry Pi Foundation brings the minicomputer in two versions: a 25 and a 35 dollar. The cheapest model features a Broadcom BCM2835 ARM1176JZF-S processor of 700MHz, 256MB of ram, a usb port and an hdmi connector. The more expensive model will have two usb ports and an ethernet connection. The printed circuit board both models measure 85,60 at 53,98 mm.
