Apple has released its third tablet in the iPad series announced. The improved iPad has four times as high resolution as its predecessor. The camera is also improved. From 23 march the new iPad for sale in the Netherlands.

The resolution of the retina display of the new iPad is 2048×1536 pixels; that is four times as high as the 1024×768 pixels on the screen of the iPad and iPad 2. The doubling of resolution in both the height and width is something that Apple did before with the presentation of the iPhone 4: the resolution of that screen was increased from 480×320 to 960×640 pixels compared to iPhone 3GS.

The higher resolution makes the screen, 264 pixels per inch displays, according to Apple, enough to make the individual pixels during normal use, not more to be able to distinguish with the naked eye. The iPhone 4 and 4s have a ppi of 326. Further promises Apple a 44 percent better color saturation. The screen remains a screen diagonal of 9.7″.

The new iPad will be starting march 23 in the Netherlands, while the tablet in the USA from 16 march and will be available. The design of the device has remained largely unchanged, and the new model has – other than the rumors suggested – still have a home button. The device is only 9.7 mm thin and weighs in Wi-fi-version 652 grams. The 4g version adds 10 grams. This is the new model about 50 grams heavier than a comparable iPad 2.

Apple has the iPad, which, incidentally, is available in black and white, equipped with a dual-core A5X soc, an improved version of the A5 soc in the iPad 2 is to be found. The A5X soc also includes a faster gpu with four cores. According to Apple, the A5X is four times faster than a Tegra 3 processor from Nvidia, which has four cores. Apple has reportedly also a vierkernige soc in development: the A6. It is still unclear if Apple is using this chip.

In the housing there is also an improved iSight camera that is similar to the camera in the iPhone 4S. The camera offers a resolution of 5 mega pixel and has auto focus. Also, video recordings are made with a 1080p resolution, with software image stabilisation is available for stuttering. Furthermore, it is a dictation to be integrated. This provides support for English, French, German, and Japanese. Via wifi is it possible to go to the new Apple TV content in 1080p quality to stream via AirPlay. In the mirror mode the quality is limited to 720p.

Apple offers the new iPad just as its predecessor, with 16, 32 or 64GB of storage. The versions with 4g costs, respectively 629, 729 and 829 dollars. The models with only wi-fi have price tags of respectively 499, 599 and 699 dollars.

The new iPad will be in the USA also available with the 4g network technology lte. Although lte models typically not available in the Netherlands come true, it seems Apple here or plans to have: on his site, which notifies the manufacturer that the 4g iPad with KPN, Vodafone or T-Mobile available is. None of the Dutch providers, however, has an lte network that is available for consumers. If the information is correct, it is possible for the first mobile device with lte in the Netherlands on the market.

Via lte networks would be a theoretical speed of 73Mbps. On 3g networks with hspa+ on the iPad 21Mbps achieved through dual channel hsdpa up to 42Mbps. Apple has in the US deals closed with Verizon and AT&T, but for each provider will be different 4g frequencies to a different iPad to be procured. Both models can, however, use the 3g networks to communicate.

The iPad will also as a personal hotspot can be used, but then the provider needs to support it. For 4g use would be the new iPad the 9 hours can uitzingen, in normal use, 10 hours. The iPad 2 remains in the shop, but drops in price. The 16GB version is 100 dollars cheaper and goes to 399 dollars, while the 3g version with the same storage 529 dollars is going to cost.
