AMD takes microserver maker SeaMicro about

AMD takes for 334 million dollars the manufacturer of microservers SeaMicro, so both companies agreed. SeaMicro uses Atom – and Xeon chips from AMD’s competitor to Intel and will continue to do so, as is the intention.

AMD hopes the technology from SeaMicro to license to other server manufacturers such as Dell and HP. Also want it in the second half of the year microservers of the company rest with its own Opteron processors.

SeaMicro aims with its microservers to the complexity, the cost and the energy consumption of servers decrease. The company knew, among other things, to distinguish between servers with large amounts of Atom processors. The technology for the consumption to return to work, according to AMD and SeaMicro, however, with multiple types of processors. Possibly, the companies are also experimenting with ARM-chips. AMD alluded recently to take a license to the ARM architecture.

The acquisition allows AMD is a leading data centers to obtain, says Rory Read, ceo of AMD. Of the consideration of 334 million dollars, 281 million dollars in cash to be paid. At SeaMicro currently employs some 80 people.
