Volvo shows smart charging technology for electric car

Volvo will at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, an electric car show where the driver is the cost of a charge through a smartphone, tablet or computer can send to the own energy bills.

Volvo, working with Ericsson in the Elviis-project has its C30 Electric model equipped with a new charging system. The batteries of the C30 can at any point be charged where the driver via a mobile, tablet or on the touchscreen of the C30-computer the maximum charging time or the desired range indicates.

Just before or during loading will be via gps to the point of interest. Also, according to Volvo possible to use wireless communication to communicate with the smart grid so that the lowest premium to stipulate, for example by charging during off-peak hours. If the charging process is completed, the cost of the charge is automatically logged in on the utility bill of the owner. It also gives the Elviis system know if the charging process will be interrupted.

According to Volvo, makes the Elviis system for owners of an electric car easier for the energy to settle. The Swedish car manufacturer this year will be five C30 Electric-vehicles equip with the charging system so the technology can continue to refine.
