Sandisk introduces two series of big ssds

Sandisk has its range of solid state drives extended with two series. The Extreme series is intended for consumentensystemen, while manufacturers for ultrabooks, purpose-built ssd’s from the X100 series could be reduced.

The Extreme series should provide users a nimble solid state drive that has a sata-600 interface. According to Sandisk would speeds of around 550MB/s for read and up to 520MB/s for write. Although a controller type is not specified, it seems plausible that a SandForce SF2281 controller for these figures is responsible, that secure the drives with Intel’s 520 series and Kingstons HyperX series compete.

System builders can Sandisk X100 series will decrease, which is probably of the same controller using the same. The drives have a sata-600 interface and achieve read and write speeds of respectively 500 and 420MB/s. The drives are not only as 2.5″ssd available, but also in msata format, and special, smaller formfactors for ultrabooks.

The Extreme drives are immediately in capacities of 120GB and 240GB available and costs 190 and $ 400. A 480GB version is being worked on which would be later this year for $ 750 should be available. The X100-series is also readily available to oems, but prices are not known. The capabilities of the X100-series range from 32GB to 512GB.
