There seems to be a majority in the Second Chamber for a plan of GroenLinks and the CDA that should provide the right for employees to work from home. This bill would be a significant extension of the current regulations imply.

The bill is Thursday, submitted by Mp Eddy van Hijum (CDA) and Ineke van Gent (GroenLinks). The two founders expect the support of a wide kamermeerderheid, who except from their own groups consisting of PvdA, D66 and ChristenUnie, writes the Volkskrant.

If the bill is adopted, can be expected that about 4.9 million people are employed a profession in the law. “We are not a society where everyone is more and more work,” says Van Gent. “But the taboo that you are not in the evening after eating your laptop just might expand should be removed.” Thus, people would, according to Van Hijum just their children out of school can pick up, for example.

The current law provides workers the right to ask for shorter or longer working weeks, a request that employers only for weighty reasons be able to refuse. Of Hijum and Of Ghent recognize that not every work for flexible hours, or telework is suitable.
