Microsoft plucks news from social networks

Microsoft calculates its new website MSNnow what the trending topics are on Facebook, Twitter and Bing. On the basis of this list is to publish the site short news items. MSNnow focuses on the younger crowd.

The algorithms foams Twitter, Facebook, Microsoft’s Bing search engine, and breakingnews.com to see what is the most common and fastest rising topics. An editorial board of twenty men selects the news and writes, then nieuwsberichtje of hundred words. The selection, however, also means that ‘offensive’ content is not displayed, claims Cnet.

The encryption algorithms that Microsoft uses is not known. But it is clear that Microsoft does not provide a special data feeds from the social networks, but the publicly available feeds from Facebook and Twitter. Bing and breakingnews.com both are owned by Microsoft.

It is not intended that the new service the old MSN portal replaces. The other nieuwscategorieën remain available and will sometimes popular news of the service take over.
