“Hacker steals e-mail addresses from the database of Philips’

A hacker claims that he had access to a Philips server which marketingsites were hosted. He would be under more than 200,000 e-mail addresses, and phone numbers have been obtained. Philips confirms that the security is ‘affected’.

The hacker has a part of the contents of the Philips database online, including a list of e-mail addresses, and two dumps with more e-mail addresses, and phone numbers. He says not all e-mail addresses online, because he wants to sell. On the black market are large lists of e-mail addresses to spammers sold. Was this list for sure; it consisted of 200,000 e-mail addresses, including e-mail addresses of the Dutch.

The hacker also set a page on the server, as proof that they cracked. Tweakers.net has verified that that page is Monday was accessible. Meanwhile the vulnerable server offline. It is remarkable that the MySQL version on the web server since 2006 and no longer is updated. It comes to MySQL version 5.0.26, which in October 2006 was released.

Spokesman Steve Klink of Philips confirms that the security of the web server Monday night was ‘compromised’. That may not correspond with the date from the database-dumps; that is pointing on February 7.

According to spokesman Klink of Philips contained the server so-called micro-sites: websites for advertising campaigns and other special actions. Or and why people are on those pages of personal information were, or could leave behind, is unclear. Klink does not want to confirm that the data is accessible. “We are still busy with our research,” he says.
