‘Deal with the Belgian Sabam makes Grooveshark is not legal’

According to the management company of Belgian record labels, remains Grooveshark illegally in Belgium lwa, despite the agreement between Sabam and the streaming service. An agreement with the labels missing and will not come quickly.

The agreement of Grooveshark, the largest online service for streaming music, Sabam does not mean that the service is now legal in Belgium. That report Simim, the collective management company of Belgian audioproducenten, to Tweakers.net. There are still no deals with the record companies. The agreement between the service and Sabam relates solely and only to the copyright: the fee for the artists. From the producers of the music, the labels, the service is still not received approval.

This will not soon change think of Simim. The organization would be a Belgian agreement for the collective of labels can be shut down, but the labels control that prefer to individually. According to the organization, do they prefer it because they carefully want to due to the uncertain legal status of the service.

The spokeswoman of Simim lets you know that a few labels, despite the lawsuit, all the conversations have had with the streaming service, but as long as there are no agreements have been completed would Grooveshark illegally remain in Belgium. Sabam, however, know that not just it can be assumed that Grooveshark is illegal, and that Sabam ‘agreements contract if the parties so request’.

Grooveshark is a more difficult case than Spotify or Deezer, because the library partially consists of songs that users have uploaded. The four major labels, EMI, Universal, Sony and Warner days Grooveshark in New York for the court for non-payment of royalties and breach of copyright. In Denmark has a right isp ‘3’ assigned to Grooveshark to block, following a complaint from the Danish RettighedsAlliancen. The isp warns that this decision is a dangerous precedent.
