Canonical reveals Ubuntu for Android project

Canonical has released a version of Ubuntu released on Android phones ge lwa installed. The features are similar to Webtop from Motorola, which desktop software on an external screen is rotated.

Users can use the Ubuntu installation on a phone that has Android 2.3 or higher. Then both operating systems at the same time booted. If the user has his smartphone with a pc that connects, are the two linked and the Ubuntu installation is active. The display is then deployed to the phone-installed Ubuntu operating system. It is for example possible to send sms messages on the desktop to reply to or via the pc phone calls to take.

In addition, various data is synchronized with the Android installation on the phone. Login credentials for social-networking sites, contacts, calendar, and several of the phone settings are as the examples mentioned. Also is it possible to have the photos on a linked smartphone to edit on the Ubuntu desktop and the changes are immediately save.

There are some requirements for running Ubuntu for Android. As the smartphone except Android 2.3 at least a dualcoreprocessor have, and it should have 512MB of ram and hdmi output. The software itself takes up 2GB of storage. Because Android and Ubuntu have the same kernel, use the two operating systems next to each other can be rotated, thus Canonical.
