Browserbouwers and advertisers have reached an agreement about the Do Not Track button in web browsers. All major browsers get the feature and advertisers promise users not to follow if the button is used.

The Do Not Track button in Chrome, Internet Explorer and Safari, and in Opera and Firefox, says The Wall Street Journal. The button indicates that the user, not advertisers want to be tracked to specific ads. The browserbouwers to this end have designated Thursday a agreement with advertising companies that, until now, the function is not supported. The agreement is about nine months.

The button, however, does not mean that the user is not followed. The browsing behavior is used for statistics and market research, as stated in the agreement. In addition, companies such as Facebook users continue to follow through Like buttons on websites. The Do Not Track button is an option in all browsers and will probably be the standard outstanding.
