TomTom Business Solutions has entered into a collaboration with the British insurer Motaquote. TomTom wants to Motaquote provide insight into the driving habits of its policyholders through its navigational tools, after which the premium is calculated.
Directors that a Fair Pay insurance for the car to shut down at Motaquote, and for £ 300 a TomTom Pro 3100 purchase, can participate. The navigation system keeps the driving behaviour of the driver in the holes. Via a points system, the driver can get a discount on his insurance policy at Motaquote.
The pnd from TomTom collects for the insurer and several data. So, the mileage is counted, while the Pro 3100 also certain ‘events’ records, such as hard braking or a sharp yank on the steering wheel. Further logs the system or the driver during the day or in the dark rides. Through a point system, there can be discount on the premium to be obtained. The pnd gives the driver an evaluation of his driving style through active driver feedback function.
TomTom claims that the collection of such statistics a fairer method of insurance premium. Normally it is based on metrics such as age, vehicle type and postal code. It also enables TomTom that the privacy is fully compliant with the law and regulations, partly because the driver can choose to have such a policy and the pnd in the car to install.
