Canonical brings custom Ubuntu for business desktops

Canonical has Ubuntu Business Desktop Remix was released, a modified version of the normal Ubuntu image that is aimed at the business market. Among other games and p2p applications are from the Remix-version is omitted.

According to the Ubuntu leader Mark Shuttleworth is the selection of applications in Ubuntu Business Desktop Remix based on the list of apps that are mostly within corporate environments can be installed or omitted. So are all games, p2p applications, some adminapps and clients for social networks have been omitted, while a number of business applications to the Business Desktop Remix have been added. In the current implementation, based on Ubuntu 11.10, include the Adobe Flash plugin, VMware View, and the OpenJDK 6 Java run-time included.

The Ubuntu Business Desktop Remix is according to Shuttleworth, fully compatible with the existing Ubuntu versions and also updates in the same way for them. Also all the used packages in the Remix version freely available in the Ubuntu Store. According to Shuttleworth, is the custom Ubuntu-release especially useful for a large-scale rollout of the open-source operating system inside companies. Currently, however, only a 32bit x86 versions available.
