Belgians can legally gamble on the internet

The Belgian gaming commission has the first licences issued to online gambling website. Until now, all the gambling sites are by definition illegal, since they are without permit to operate. Sites without a license continue to be blocked.

Gambling sites that qualify can now have a licence, so can be read on the website of the gambling commission. Include PokerStars and Partouche have already been licensed. New sites with permits will be added to the list.

It is unclear which websites really have obtained a license. Belga talks about three licensed websites, including 777.be, but that is not on the list of the Commission. That speaks also about six sites with permits.

The Belgian kansspelwet from 1999 states that players may not gambling when the provider has no authorization. Although there is no explicit prohibition on internet gambling had no website of a licence, making gambling on the internet, in practice, always a wetsoverstreding was.

Gambling sites without a permit are now no longer tolerated: four Belgian providers are working together with the commission to block. The gambling commission gives opposite Tweakers.net that, however, it is impossible to list all of possible gambling sites to block. That without prejudice to the fact that players can be punished for gambling on an illegal site: the fine could be up to 25,000 euros.

In the Netherlands, is internet gambling is still prohibited; plans to make to change, to loose screws, wrote Tweakers.net earlier.
