Apple would be voice control Siri is not released as update for the iPhone 4 from 2010, because the older device has an audio chip that is not a voice at a distance can be distinguished. That makes an analyst from documents from the chipmaker.

Both the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 4 contains an audio chip from Audience, but the 4S has a newer and bigger chip, that also voice filtering if the further user of the device speaks. That claims to be an analyst of the Linley Group, on the basis of documents that are associated with the initial public offering of Audience.

Siri is promoted as a voice command for which the device is not close to your mouth. That is because the Audience chip of the new generation in the A5 soc Apple is integrated, says the analyst. The old chip was the sound of the voice remote does not properly filter. “Since then, it has Audience the farfield technology to be the voice of the background noise filtering is improved. Siri could even with modest background noise does not work well on older iPhones.”

Apple is not the only customer of Audience. The technology was first applied by HTC and Google in the Nexus One smartphone in early 2010. Then was also a Samsung licensee. Samsung has the chip used in the Galaxy S II. LG and Sony are also licensee of the audiobedrijf. Noise cancellation in 2011 was to find more and more smartphones. Usually for that purpose a second microphone in the device.

Presumably there will also be a newer version of the chip sitting in the Apple A6 soc, which this year for the first time is used in iPhones and iPads, so suspect the analyst. Apple has the licentiedeal with the Audience refreshed for use in a ‘future product’.
