Flash plug-in for Firefox sandbox in

The Flash plug-in for Firefox is safer. The plug-in in a sandbox to run; the Flash plug-in for Chrome does that already. The sandbox version of the plug-in is currently still in b lwa ta; a stable version will follow later this year.

That writes beveiligingsonderzoeker Peleus Uhley from Adobe. The gesandboxte version is already as a beta to download, but it is a beta in the classic sense of the word, which thus still needs to be tinkered. Because there have been many changes to the code are made to sandboxing, it may be that Flash content on the internet is not working properly.

The sandboxing makes sure that the Flash plug-in in a separate process with limited rights is to be found. A vulnerability in Flash must, therefore, less damage. That is desperately needed, because a lot of malware makes use of Flash exploits to themselves on the systems of unwitting internet users to nestle. The beta works on Windows Vista and 7, and Firefox version 4.0 and higher.

The trial version is only available in 32bit; the 64bit version of Firefox is not supported. It is unclear when this needs to change. By the way, the 32bit version of Firefox on a 64bit-system can be used.

In 2011, sandboxing to the Flash plug-in for Google Chrome. The plug-in together with Google Chrome spread, so that all Chrome users currently have a gesandboxte Flash plug-in. When Firefox users say the same thing, it is not entirely clear yet; Adobe is going somewhere this year a stable version to release.

When the Internet Explorer plug-in in a sandbox is running, is still unknown, writes Infoworld. The Flash plug-in for IE uses the ActiveX architecture, allowing the integration of sandboxing in a different way for that to happen.

Incidentally, supports Flash already Protected Mode in Internet Explorer, where IE in a sandbox running. The Flash plug-in itself, however, is not in a sandbox. Adobe Reader running in a sandbox; according to Adobe, is the number of successful attacks on the plug-in, thereby to zero decreased.
