Windows 8 for ARM chips turned in October last year is still not stable, but by now, according to multiple sources from Cnet. Microsoft therefore, in February the first version of the operating system release to developers.

Microsoft previously made known to the public beta of Windows 8 for x86 processors at the end of February is released, but in the same month, developers can probably the version for ARM chips. That claim at least two sources of Cnet. “In October last year shocked the industry even Windows 8 for arm because it is unstable. What we see now is impressive and stable,” said one of them.

At CES 2012 in early January in Las Vegas took place, were multiple ARM-based tablets with Windows 8 are shown, but usually only behind glass. Tweakers.net heard from multiple manufacturers that Microsoft does not gave permission to use the tablets to demonstrate. It is unclear, however, whether this was because the OS is not yet stable turned.

One of the sources of Cnet also said that a “high-profile Windows 8 device using Intel chips, during the CES with a lot of fanfare was shown, probably hundreds of dollars cheaper than the ARM version.” He would be the ARM-device have seen and it would look identical have looked like if the displayed Intel-version.

It is unclear to which device it is but he hint at an ultrabook-like device. “The implication is that with Intel’s ultrabooks, the idea popular is that there thinner designs are possible, faster startup and longer battery life. But you get Windows 8 on arm, that all those things do, but at a price that is much lower.”

A large disadvantage of ARM ultrabooks with Windows 8 would be that traditional Windows apps for x86 will not work. Microsoft would, therefore, work hard to a good amount of html5 apps for the Windows Metro interface ready for the release. Html5 apps work on both platforms. Unknown is yet, or Windows 8 for arm at the same time with the x86 version to be released.
