Transcend introduces SSD720 series

Transcend has a new series of solid state drives released, with the series name SSD720 get going. Intel had that name been reserved for the delayed series business ssd. Transcends ssds have a sata-600 interface.

The new series of solid state drives of Transcend consists of three drives with capacities of 64, 128 and 256GB. The naming of the drives is remarkable, because it has been long known that Intel is working on a successor of the X25-E series ssds, codenamed Ramsdale. These ssd’s have the 720 range and would be in the third quarter of 2011, but were postponed. Transcend picks up with its new ssds that name, but whether that has implications for Intel’s naming convention remains to be seen.

The SSD720 series of Transcend is powered by a SF2281 controller from SandForce, that write speeds up to 550MB/s and read speeds over 500MB/s. The drives are in an enclosure of 7mm high to be found, so that they are also in plain laptops can be used. Mlc flash drives are a sata-600 interface and provide support under more ncq, 512bits-ecc and the trim command under Windows 7. The prices are not yet known, but that will change as soon as the SSD720 series in the course of next week is available.
