Tokina announces a new version of 11-16mm f/2.8 lens to

Tokina has released a new version of its 11-16mm f/2.8-wide angle zoom lens for aps-c dslrs from Canon and Nikon announced. The main improvement is that the lens uses Tokina’s Silent Drive Module technology.

The optical formula of the new lens, with the full-type AT-X 116 PRO DXⅱ, compared with the previous version has not changed, but has the Tokina for the lens with a new coating. Possible, because of this, the degree of chromatic aberration, which the previous version suffers.

Thanks to the SD-M technology can the lens now be used on the cheaper Nikon dslrs, without built-in af motor, such as the D5100, the D3100, and the predecessors thereof. The first version of the lens with a Nikon-mount used a screw for the focus.

The silent af motor in the lens makes it probable also possible to set the auto focus is easy to override by the focus ring to rotate. In the previous version it was necessary to set the focus ring to slide back and forth before manual focus was activated. This was the focus, obtained with the af mode, is disturbed so that too much manual had to be readjusted. This is a common complaint with the previous version.

The Nikon version of the AT-X 116 PRO DX II is from the end of march available, while the Canon variant only at the end of July appears. Prices are not yet known, but the earlier version is not much escape. It is not known whether the previous version in production, but this does not seem likely.
