Kazuto Yamaki, ceo of Sigma, has in an interview with DPReview said that it is an absolute necessity to have a camera with the new Foveon image sensor with effective separation of 15.3 megapixels to develop which will be cheaper than the current SD1 dslr.

According to Yamaki was the lukewarm reception of the SD1 dslr a direct result of the high price of the camera. Sigma considered because of the high production costs are forced to use when introducing a price of 9700 dollars. The new Foveon sensor, which the company differentiates itself from competitors, led to the high cost.

Yamaki promises in the interview with DPReview, held at the CES, that the following products on the basis of the new Foveon sensor is more interesting. Sigma says a lot to have done to reduce the cost. That must be a camera that is significantly cheaper. A and other is highly dependent on the price of the yen and the progress of the euro crisis.

The question is what the next camera will be. It may be an update of the SD1 dslr, but it is also possible that Sigma is working on a successor to the SD15 dslr or to a new SD camera with a fixed lens. Given the reputation of the company with the timely delivery of products will take quite some time before the new camera is introduced.

Sigma introduced at the CES including two Digital Neo lenses for m4/3 and DSLR-ilc-cameras: a 19mm f/2.8 and a 30mm f/2.8 lens. Also introduced the Sigma 180mm f/2.8-macro lens.
