Schermpaneelfabrikant Pixel Qi displays at CES a new 10,1″panel that makes use of its 3Qi technology, which may also be in direct sunlight to read. The screen has a higher resolution and improved color reproduction.
The screen is a further development of the panel at Computex was shown. Pixel Qi has the resolution to increase from 1024×600 to 1280×800 pixels. In addition, the color reproduction is also improved in the reflective mode with the backlight off. The test sample was in that position one per cent of the ntsc gamut display, but in the final version Pixel Qi this jacking up to five percent.
The screens from Pixel Qi, both with and without a backlight will be used. If the backlight is turned off, the display then switches to a reflective mode and reduces the power consumption according to the manufacturer, with eighty percent. This is the panel in this mode, very good to view in direct sunlight.
Pixel Qi demonstrates screen technology already at trade fairs and expo’s, but the technology is hardly to find in products. Only the Notion Ink Adam tablet with a Pixel Qi screen offered. The company did not say in which products the technology in the future is going to be used.
