Pentax has the Pentax K-01 announced its second compact system camera. The K-01 has an aps-c image sensor 16.3 megapixels and uses the Pentax K bayonet for lenses.
The body of the Pentax K-01, a design by industrial designer Marc Newson, is larger than in most other compact system cameras by Pentax for the camera uses the same bayonetaansluiting as for its dslr’s. The grip of the Pentax K-01 is shallower than at Pentax-dslr’s, but also slightly wider and seems therefore the grip of the Sony NEX-3. The round shape of the mighty men of mode switch runs through in the body and in addition Pentax has a flip-up flash hidden behind a standard hot shoe. On the Pentax K-01 can current Pentax dslr lenses be used, but Pentax has a new camera with a 40mm-pancakelens with a length of less than a centimetre designed as a kit lens with the K-01 can be supplied.
The Pentax K-01 shares a number of components with its bespiegelde relative K-5. This makes the K-01 uses the same aps-c image sensor 16.3 megapixels with maximum iso sensitivity of iso 12,800, a 3″vga lcd reused and is also the D-LI90 battery of the K-5 used the K-01. Image stabilization is possible with all Pentax lenses due to the use of sensor-shift-technology, while the camera’s 1080p video can take up with the framerates 24, 25 and 30fps. In contrast to earlier rumors, the body of the K-01 is not sealed against moisture and dust.
The new compact system camera from Pentax is available in three colorways, including one in kanariegeel with black and silver. The camera will have a suggested retail price of 699 euros for just the body, while this in combination with the 18-55mm lens or the 40mm-pancakelens 789 euro cost.
