The Polish Developer CD Projekt RED stops the sending of notices to persons who have their rpg The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings illegally downloaded. The step contributed to a lot of protest from fans of the game.

Marcin Iwinski, founder of developer CD Projekt RED focuses in an open letter to fans of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, the rpg that the Polish studio in may 2011 delivered. His company will no longer be spiced accounts message to people that the rpg illegally downloaded. Iwinski announced the measure in december. His company has hired a lawyer in that downloaders ordered to pay for the use of the software of CD Projekt. The studio brought with it considerable costs. The measure came to the studio on the necessary criticism to stand, what Iwinski is the reason why the writing of individual file sharers to cease. We regret to see that many gamers felt that our action has no respect for the confidence they have in CD Projekt RED,” says Iwinski in his letter.

When pc game The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings came on the market, the game is protected with drm. Two weeks after the release of the game gave the developer, however, been a patch released that the security deleted. Just as in the open letter which he now wrote, suggested Iwinski when all that he does not believe that drm works. It bothers only the legitimate users, while those obstacles in the illegal version have been removed. He indicated at that time that he was planning to torrent-tracking to apply and to take legal action against file sharers. The show was however something else. CD Projekts Agnieszka Szostak suggested half a year ago: “Yes, we track illegal file-sharers, in the hope that they the game well enough to change your mind and are willing to pay.” The developer had not, on the level of the reminder.
