Government start with ‘National App Award

The cabinet attracts 12,500 euros from the main prize in a new competition that revolves around the use of government data. The government want to achieve that developers make more use of the available government data.

Minister of Economic Affairs Maxime Verhagen gave the starting shot for the new award Thursday afternoon during the IBestuur Congress, a congress about the use of ict in the government.

“Governments have a wealth of information for smart and useful apps,” said Verhagen. “We will have those dates open and I hope that provinces and municipalities will soon follow our example. I challenge all of app-builders from the Netherlands, from the best open data app development.”

Reason for the new price is a previously organised competition under the name Apps for the Netherlands. For this contest, developed participants 48 applications submitted as an entry. The minister presented Thursday the prize to the creators of Vistory, an app that the Dutch history in images and movies on a mobile phone shows, depending on the place where someone resides.

Previously been opened by the government a special portal for access and management of available government data. On data.overheid.nl during the competition, existing and new data collected.
