The American security service NSA has the source code released of what is a more secure version of Android should be. SEAndroid is not a ready-made product; users have for their phones compile.
Security Enhanced Android or SEAndroid seeks vulnerabilities in Android to tackle. Malware is the only cut off by the applications in a sandbox, and to run, so a malicious program, not just at the data on the phone can. To the build to compile, is a computer with Fedora, Ubuntu or Mac OS X; Windows is not supported.
The NSA brought in 2000, SELinux, a Linux-variant that is also intended to increase the safety. The idea for SEAndroid was last year presented by NSA employee, Stephen Smalley. The techniques in SELinux are used, need Android protect against known root methods such as GingerBreak, from the Dutch developer Chainfire, and PSNeuter. Also vulnerabilities if the vulnerability in the Skype app for Android that can be properly fixed, says Smalley. The NSA employee that Android has a better security needed.
The source code for SEAndroid is suitable for devices like the Google Nexus S and for emulators, also for X86 processors. It is unclear whether there are custom roms based on this software will appear. Because the OS is based on AOSP, which contains the source code not Google apps, like Gmail, Maps, and Market.
