ZiiLabs, part of Creative, a new system-on-chip with four Cortex-A9 cores released. The soc has a further 96 multimediacores that the stock should relieve and for longer battery life.
The ZMS-40 is the successor of the ZMS-20-dualcore and according to Creative, the chip optimized for Android 4.0. The manufacturer promotes the soc with its Jaguar reference platform for tablets that Android Ice Cream Sandwich running. The four ARM Cortex A9 cores running at 1.5 GHz. In addition, there are 96 StemCell Media Processing Cores that are based on the simd-architecture. This would, according to ZiiLabs, the mediaprestaties double compared to that of the ZMS-20, that 48 of those cores.
The media cores are programmable and would total for 58GFlops computing concerns. The cores according to the Creative-daughter in the future to convert to high resolutions of, for example, 7680×4320. The ZMS-40 would be due to its programmability and processing power, the heavier compression of the proposed High Efficiency Video Coding or h265 standard should be able to handle.
Products with the chip is called ZiiLabs yet, but the company would be a Chinese Tablet Alliance forms with Chinese companies interested in manufacturing of products with the soc.
