Sharp announces 80″lcd-tv with Quattron-panel and 3d – update

Sharp at its CES press conference, the new US-tv-line-up for 2012 have been announced. One of the new models is the 80″-LE844 with improved Quattron panel and full led backlight. Also, the interface on the kick is gone.

Sharp brought in september last year, the first 80″lcd-tv with led-lighting in the United States. That model, the LC-80LE632, was fitted with a ‘normal’ lcd with rgb-subpixelordening and had no option to 3d view. The now-announced new 80″model has higher specifications.

So does the tv use of leds behind the panel, a uniform light distribution, no superfluous luxury in a such a large surface, but it is not possible to change the leds in zones to dim. Furthermore, the LE844 a so-called Quattron panel, consisting of subpixels in the colors red, green, blue, and yellow. This panel can switch it out with 240Hz, so that movements in the image by brightening, darkening, blurring shown.

The new top model from Sharp, the LE945, just as the LE844 a full led backlight, but it has the possibility to use led zones to dim. It is not yet known how many leds and led display zones, the backlight is constructed. In contrast to the LE844 the LE945 not in an 80″version, but only in 60″ and 70″versions. The LE945 seems to be strong on the LE935 model that Sharp at CES 2011 showed, but never officially released.

Something lower on the ladder is the LE847-series, consisting of a 60″ and a 70″model. The LE847-series is characterized by the use of a Quattron panel with a fast 240Hz-refresh rate and edge-lit led backlight. Underneath that is a place reserved for the LE745 series. This has a 120Hz panel with conventional rgb pixels, edge-lit led backlight and 3d support, while the LE640 available in the sizes 52″, 60″ and 70″, and has no option for 3d viewing.

The Quattron models in the series feature the second generation Quad Pixel Plus II technology. This would make images even sharper can show on the screen. Sharp has the models also feature a new and highly customizable menu interface for its smart tv platform, Smart Central’. Also two announced blu-ray players from Sharp, the BD-AMS10U and BD-AMS20U can make use of the revamped smart tv interface. Also have these blu-ray players support for the mhl standard for data transmission between a smartphone or tablet to an mhl-compatible device.

How the American tv-models relate to the European equivalents, it is not yet clear, but like last year, it may be assumed that the models are not one-on-one released in Europe. In a model, the 60″-LE635, is that actually happened.

[update]: discussion with Ingrid Helderman Sharp after the press conference shows that the larger size lcd-tvs in 2012, released in Europe, not 1-on-1 to compare with the American counterparts. Come to the Netherlands in any case, the 80″-LE645, a model with a normal rgb panel, two 70″lcd tvs, the LE835 with Quattron-panel and ‘Direct LED’, while the LE740-variant a rgb panel. Sharp brings further in the Netherlands, three new 60″models: the LE840 with Quattron, and the LE740 and LE635 with rgb panel. The new SmartCentral-smart-tv-platform is only for the American market. In the Netherlands are going one further with the AquosNet+platform. Also going to Sharp 60″-LEF7 to release a tv that its signal wireless can receive, but that is to be connected to the mains.
