Samsung has at CES 2012-consumer electronics the WB850F was introduced. The new top model in Samsung’s Performance-line of cameras has a 21x-zoom lens and wi-fi built in. The camera is also equipped with gps and a digital compass.
The WB850F has compared the current top model, the WB750, a number of extras. The main addition is the wi-fi support. Samsung had with the ST100 already a camera in the range with the wi-fi option, but it is the first time that Samsung the feature in a camera in the travelzoom-segment processed. Over wifi, users need simple photos directly to Facebook and Picasa, while the video to YouTube can be uploaded.
Back is gps. This feature was already available on the WB650, but the WB700 and WB750 which followed, were without geotagging of photos. Using the new Live Landmark feature, which uses a wi-fi connection, maps of cities, towns, and information about interesting places in the neighbourhood to be downloaded.
The WB850F has a stabilised 21x optical zoom lens with an effective range of 23-483mm in small and a new bsi-cmos image sensor with 16.2 megapixels. The WB750 has, for comparison, an 18x-zoom lens, starting at 24mm and a bsi-cmos sensor with 12.5 megapixels.
Although Samsung have no additional specifications released, it is on the product photos to see that the WB850F is a amoled screen. The resolution is still unknown. The WB750 had a lcd with 460.000 subpixels. The fact that the Samsung WB850F as Smart-camera called, indicates probably that the camera has a touch interface will have, like the other current Smart models. What zoom ratio is the WB850F, however, under the Performance-line of Samsung cameras.
In addition to the WB850F announced by Samsung at the CES, the WB150F and the ST200F. Both compact cameras have like the WB850F wi-fi. The WB150F will just like the current WB750 an 18x-zoom lens with a wide angle of 24mm, while the ST200F is a 10x-zoom lens with an effective range of 27-270mm. The ST100, the predecessor of the ST200F, had a 5x zoom lens.
The WB850F is from march available for a suggested retail price of 379 euros. Of the other mentioned cameras are still no prices known.
