WD and Seagate screws warranty period back in 2012

The two biggest manufacturers of hard drives, Western Digital and Seagate shorten the warranty period for their products. At Western Digital the time period is reduced to two years, with Seagate is that even until completed. n year.

Western Digital has their partners, let them know that the distribution warranty period for Caviar Blue, Caviar Green and Scorpio Blue is reduced from three to two years. The change is January 2, 2012, in, state in the notice that The Register publishes it. The warranty of the Caviar Black and Scorpio Black would remain unchanged.

Competitor Seagate would even go a step further, writes again to The Registry. The manufacturer last week to distributors in to let us know that the warranty period for most Barracuda and Momentus drives, will be reduced to one year, and in some cases from five to three years. This change comes as at 31 december 2011. Seagate says this ‘more in line with the terms that are commonly used in the markets for consumer electronics and technology.’

It is unclear what consumers in the Netherlands of the changes brands. Legally, they are entitled to warranty for the reasonably expected period of time that a product is working.
