Nokia: mobile phones can not yet fully on solar energy

Cell phones may not work completely on solar energy. That is the outcome of a test that Nokia in various parts of the world. A prototype with solar cells on the accuklep generated is not enough energy for daily use.

If the solar cells are placed properly, they can according to Nokia, enough to generate energy for your phone to provide energy in standby mode. You can but limited call with the phone, says Nokia. During the test, ran the manufacturer against various problems that prevent phones with solar energy can be charged.

One of the biggest problems is the limited space on the back of the phone. Then you may not have enough solar cells to be placed. Also the angle at which the sun appears to have an effect. In the Polar region showed the generated energy, also in the summer much less than in Kenya, because the sun is less high. The fact that phones are often in pockets to be worn, helps neither. “There were reasonable results as the tester, the phone was going out, for example in a holder for the neck. However, that is not the most stylish or comfortable way, so that a different solution is needed”, says the manufacturer.

The test results seem to indicate that Nokia will not deposit on making phones with solar energy. Other manufacturers were already phones with solar cells, such as the LG Pop and Samsung Blue Earth. Solar cells on the accuklep are, however, not yet become commonplace. Now smartphones are getting cheaper, and mainstream, it will be the task of any solar cells increased. Smartphones have a lot more energy than simple phones that only be used for calling and texting.

Nokia remains in any case the search for other forms of energy supply for phones. So it also works on a technology for phones to charge on the way in which rfid tags will be supplied with energy.
