Website Kotaku has discovered that Microsoft on the 27th of december, a patent has been given on a method to ‘media to take on a game console, such as the header above the request reads. That application dates back to 2007, when Microsoft plans to make the living room to conquer with a set-top-box. From the description, it seems that Microsoft has a game console will function as a ‘digital video recorder’. The application running alongside a tv client, and allows users to play media on the hard drive of the console.

The dvr application can be found in the menu of the console and provides the option of media to record on the fly. Recordings can also be made if the console is turned off, it is apparent from the patent, though it is likely the sleep mode of the device intended. With the application not only allows tv programs to be recorded, but also images from games and even images of dvds. In the application describes Microsoft a console for the handling of various tasks using different cpu’s.

It is not clear what Microsoft with the granted patent. Is expected to announce the company this year a new version of the Xbox, possibly during the CES, later this month. There are rumours that Microsoft are two different models of the new console on the market, one of which is a glorified set-top-box.
