New Openoffice.org-variant White Label Office appeared

A group of German developers has released the first release candidate of White Label Office 3.3.1 is released. It is a variant of Openoffice.org and seems to be made out of the dissatisfaction about the development of the latter notification.

The release candidate of White Label Office 3.3.1 is free of charge in English, German, Italian, French and Spanish. According to the authors, who are Team Openoffice.org call it, is the software to consider as the successor of Openoffice.org 3.3.0 and contains the release relative to that package some bug fixes and stability improvements. The first maintenance release of White Label Office 3.3.1 will be out in early 2012 appear.

From the press release shows dissatisfaction about the role of the Apache Software Foundation at Openoffice.org. So says Team Openoffice.org that they have no agreement with the ASF about the use of the brand name Openoffice.org for the software could get. Neither does the team need to have professional developers stay connected to the project, now the sponsorship of the Oracle is lost.

The ASF sent this week in an open letter to the Open Document Format community to the importance of the project and the benefits of the Apache license for the spotlight. The letter contained, however, also some references to the project of the Germans. “In addition to clarifying our position on the subject of brands, we want to make clear that no third party has been authorised to collect donations on behalf of the Apache Software Foundation or its projects, including Openoffice.org to ask,” said the ASF.
