Music industry loses lawsuit of p2p-developer

The four major music publishers and collecting society in Spain, a lawsuit lost that they had filed against the developer of a few p2p applications. The developer now wants a compensation.

Developer Pablo Soto has two p2p applications developed: Blubster and Piolet. Also has Soto behind the mp2p protocol has been developed. Together with the Spanish copyrightwaakhond Promusicae complained, Universal, Sony, EMI and Warner the Spaniard in 2008 due to copyright infringement.

According to the music publishers was Soto responsible for auteursrechtenschendingen by the users of p2p software, because the developer in his applications is not a good filter technology would offer. The plaintiffs demanded a compensation of 13 million dollars.

The court has, however, all charges against the developer rejected, reports the Spanish newspaper El Mundo. The court is of the opinion that p2p is a neutral technology. Soto is considering, now that he is acquitted, file a claim with the record companies, but the plaintiffs consider to turn to to appeal.
