Green light for new submarine backbone Asia lwa

The Asia Pacific Gateway-kabelconsortium NEC the contract for the construction and maintenance of a submarine backbone that a number of important Asian countries together. The project gives it the green light.

In may 2009, had the parties all placed their signatures under a memorandum of understanding for the construction, but the consortium has in Beijing, now the final agreement was signed. In June 2014, would be the new submarine backbone operational.

NEC will be the construction and maintenance of the APG cable network, but an exact amount for the awarded contract is not published. It was going to be ‘millions of dollars’. In total, the APG cable network is about 377 million euros in costs.

The APG cable network connects nine Asian countries with each other. These are, successively, Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. The network will use a speed of 40Gbps per wavelength, and is prepared at speeds up to 100Gbps. The total capacity of the network is estimated to 54,8 Tbps.
