Ziggo has released a new version of its iPad application was released that allows internet subscribers of the kabelaar now also live watching television. Via Ziggo TV 2.0 can ten Dutch channels ‘in almost hd quality’ to be viewed.
Compared to the first version of the application, there are very few things changed. The most notable update in version 2.0 is the ability to Nederland 1, 2 and 3, RTL 4, 5, 7, and 8, and NET5, SBS6 and Veronica live via the iPad to view. An iPhone version is being worked on. KPN already offers a similar service for its Interactive TV customers; UPC adds this functionality expected to close by early next year.
The quality of the livestream, which is about a minute behind the ‘real’ digital livesignaal, depending on the available bandwidth the user has available. The maximum bitrate of a stream is 1.2 Mbps and a minimum of 800Kbps.
“Customers want to watch tv at the time of their convenience, in the place where they currently are and on the screen what they have at that moment,” says Marcel Nijhof, commercial director of Ziggo. “Not only on television, but also on their tablet or smartphone. Our ultimate goal is to television and video on demand at any convenient screen available.”
In addition to live tv, the application also the possibility of a tv guide to refer to, and can alerts be set to give a warning if a series or movie starts. The user can decide which channels in the tv guide are displayed.
