“Windows Phone 8 will get the same kernel as Windows 8”

Windows Phone 8 would be on the same kernel running as Windows 8. That says a top executive of Vodafone. Now, it’s running Windows Phone 7.5 on a Windows CE kernel. Apps may be interchangeable between Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 Apollo.

Microsoft has still not released the kernel of Windows Phone 8, but a marketing manager of Vodafone explains in an interview with scholarly publications Telecoms that Microsoft is working on the kernel of Windows Phone to adapt. “The kernel of Windows Phone 8 is modified as compared to Windows Phone 7 to be the same as Windows 8 on the pc. If you are the technical point of view about two to three years, what will be the difference between a plain pc with a touchscreen, a tablet and a smartphone, which is actually a smaller tablet?”

The statements of the Vodafone ceo will not completely fall out of the sky. Microsoft was already known that Windows 8 will also appear in a version for ARM processors. Since then, do now and then rumours that the Windows 8 kernel is the basis of Windows Phone. Windows Phone 7 runs on a Windows CE kernel. Windows 8 and Windows Phone share many elements, such as the Metro interface, log in with a Live ID and the focus on touch screens.

The reason that Microsoft a Windows 8 kernel would like to use for a Windows Phone 8 compatibility, argued tweaker MrHankey been a couple of months ago. “Ballmer has already indicated that Windows 8 is a big gamble. Dumping the CE kernel is the icing on the cake of Ballmers entire strategy seems to me to be. Because if you create an app for Windows, then running the same on everything a bit of a Microsoft fanboy in the house.”
