Twitter acquires Whisper Systems, a start-up that focuses on the encryption of communications on Android devices. How much Twitter has paid and what plans the microbloggingdienst with the acquisition is not known.

Twitter takes over for an unknown amount of Whisper Systems, reports Reuters. Whisper Systems provides various tools for Android smartphones protect and was founded in 2010 by security experts Moxie Marlinspike and Stuart Anderson. The two go to Twitter to get started in the development team.

The portfolio of Whisper contains apps data on Android phones to encrypt, encrypted backups in the cloud to store, monitoring network traffic, encrypted calls and encrypted text messages to send. The way in which Twitter has the knowledge and software of Whisper is going to bet is not published. At the end of February came to light that apps of various social networks are poorly protected.
