Syria’s “last Chance”

After five years of civil war, a new ceasefire is in Syria. And the battles actually seem to be subsided. A glimmer of hope for the stricken country.

As the opposition announced close to the Syrian Observatory for human rights, it came in the night to Tuesday to air attacks and bombardments of the Syrian army in the provinces of Hama and Aleppo. In addition, there have been shots fired on rebel-controlled areas near the capital Damascus. The violations of the cease-fire were not severe, they say. The UK-based Observatory has a dense network of informants in Syria, whose details can be checked independently.

Syria: cease-fire came into force

U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry also explained that initial reports indicated a decrease in fighting. However, it is still too early to assess how effective the deal is. The ceasefire was “perhaps the last Chance” to save Syria. Only a political solution would be a “realistic solution” to the conflict, in which hundreds of thousands of people were killed. Federal foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier emphasised profits: “games on the backs of the people, and stroke, the body Terrain – the need to end right now.”

Soon together against jihadists?

The cease-fire, to which Kerry and his Russian colleague Sergei Lavrov last weekend, after tough negotiations had agreed, and was entered at sunset on Monday evening. You should enable the supply of the needy population with food and medicines, as well as the way for new diplomatic initiatives pave. However, jihadists groups, such as the terrorist militia “Islamic state” (IS) and the “Fatah al-sham” (formerly “Al-Nusra Front to be attacked”). The ceasefire was a week long, to coordinate, the USA and Russia in their fight against jihadists in Syria.

Russia is of the essence, meanwhile, to new peace talks, which could take place at the beginning of October. The first round of talks under UN mediation had not resulted in in spite of several Meetings in Geneva to success. A then closed the cease-fire agreement was never fully respected.
