OCZ introduces Petrol-series ssds

OCZ Technology released its latest range of solid state drives, the Petrol series, released. The drives have a maximum capacity of 512GB, while the smallest drive 64GB large. The ssds feature a sata-600 interface.

The Petrol-series is powered by an Indilinx Everest controller, which speeds up to 250MB/s for write and up to 370MB/s for read. The largest drive, with a capacity of 512GB, gets those speeds, while the 256GB version with up to 240MB/s writes and also 370MB/s for read. The 128GB version have to do with 135MB/s write and 360MB/s for read.

The number of iops for 4KB random read-actions amounts to € 34.000 iops, while writing varies from 10,000 to 4,000 iops. The Petrol series makes use of asynchronous mlc memory according to a undefined 2xnm process is fried. The prices range from 75 euros for the smallest 64GB model to 580 euro for the 512GB version.
