KPN: mobile phone plans should be more expensive – update

Phones must cost more to cover the costs of maintenance for the mobile network, says a senior executive of KPN. Customers must have a minimum of 40 euros per month to pay for the costs to cover.

A provider must weekly ‘millions’ to spend to maintain their network and the necessary capacity in place, “says director Consumers’ Marco Visser of KPN. “We can no more free phones to give away with a subscription, and only in the case of monthly amounts of 40 euro, we can the investment be profitable,” says Visser, according to Emerce

Telecommunications providers must, therefore, ‘change the game’. “For that choice, we are all”, says Visser, thus referring to other providers. Due to the increased data usage would be networks, more capacity is require. In like manner, Vodafone this year, 240 million euros in the network. How much KPN spend on maintenance of the network, is unknown.

The timing of the sayings of the Angler at the event, Telecom Time is precarious: the NMa did last week in a raid at KPN and competitors Vodafone and T-Mobile, on suspicion of prohibited price-fixing. According to the testimonies of whistle-blowers to use the providers under more telecomevenementen and statements in the media as a means to each other early on and inform each other’s plans. Visser has not commented on any actual further price increases. KPN increased last summer, the prices for the last.

Members of parliament have frequently said that they believe that there is too little competition in the telecoms market, so the prices now are already disproportionately high. A lot of tweakers seem to believe: only 0.7 percent of the visitors said last week in a poll that they have lots of competition between KPN, Vodafone and T-Mobile.

Update 15:20: KPN to let you know that Visser has not said that subscriptions more expensive. “Marco Visser has not spoken about the cost of abo’s. And Marco Visser has not at all said that the more expensive abo’s deemed necessary. So is his speech not meant. What he has said and more than once has repeated that revenue levels and revenue models have to change.”
